Careers

Build serious mechanical work with Roberts.

Union service techs, sheet metal workers, pipefitters, project managers, service sales representatives, and construction project executives all have a place in the next chapter.

Join Roberts

Mechanical work worth doing, at a company that has been doing it since 1949.

Roberts started as a refrigeration and heating service company in 1949 and was incorporated as Roberts Environmental Control Corp. in 1973. Fifty years on we self-perform commercial and industrial mechanical construction, fabrication, service, and controls — union, in four states.

We are straightforward about what we want: people who know the work, respect the craft, and will hold a standard when nobody is watching.

Self-perform, not brokered

Sheet metal, piping, controls, and service are done by Roberts people, out of a Roberts shop.

The Work

What you would actually be on.

Not a stock photo of a jobsite. These are Roberts projects, and the kind of scope our crews are handed.

Jesse Brown VA Blood Lab

Blind crane picks for roof-mounted air handlers, steam and hot water piping while the lab stayed operational, and eight-story exterior duct risers in downtown Chicago.

Jackson Park Hospital Boilers

A 350-HP mobile steam boiler kept the hospital in service while a new plant went in — boilers craned through the roof.

Tomah VA Boiler Plant

High-pressure steam plant replacement in Wisconsin, with temporary boilers and SCADA controls holding the campus through the changeover.

Career Paths

Where people fit at Roberts.

These stay open whether or not a specific job is posted. If you are good and the timing is close, talk to us anyway.

Union Service Techs

Commercial HVAC, boilers, chillers, controls, and diagnostics — hospitals, schools, plants, and occupied buildings, including emergency calls.

Troubleshooting is the job. You are often the only Roberts person on site and the one the customer talks to.

Union Sheet Metal Workers

Duct systems from the shop to the field, tied to our own 30,000 SF fabrication floor rather than whatever shows up on a truck.

Shop and field both. Layout, fabrication, rigging, and install on commercial and industrial systems.

Union Pipefitters

Steam, hydronic, process, chilled water, and equipment piping — including high-pressure steam plants and work in live facilities.

Welding and rigging on systems that cannot simply be shut off while you work.

Project Managers

Scope, schedule, coordination, submittals, and the customer relationship on mechanical construction and retrofit projects.

You own the plan and the communication. Field experience is respected here, not a footnote.

Service Sales Representatives

Maintenance agreements, repairs, retrofits, and facility assessments for owners planning years ahead, not just the next call.

Technical enough to size up a mechanical room, commercial enough to build the relationship.

Construction Project Executives

Leadership across complex mechanical construction — delivery, risk, and the customer outcome.

For people who have run the work and want a larger portfolio of it.

How We Work

Less paperwork. Better information.

Roberts invests in the systems behind the work so the day is spent on the mechanical problem, not on chasing drawings or filling out forms twice.

Dispatch and work tickets on your phone

Scheduling, job details, and documentation are digital. No carbon copies, no calling the office to find out where you are going.

Drawings where you need them

The Roberts Plan Room puts current drawings and submittals in reach instead of on someone's desk.

Equipment history at the unit

What was done last time, what failed, what was ordered — so you are not diagnosing the same thing twice.

Coordination done before the field

In-house BIM and 30,000 SF of fabrication mean fewer surprises when it reaches the jobsite.
